Im looking at a boat that has Kaama surface drives and I know little about these other than the basics and what I have read using the search function
What should I be looking for? What is an issue in terms of parts avail etc? Where does one purchase props for these? Im assuming the used market is slim for these units???

TIA

I had a friend with a Kaama Scarab a number of years ago. What I understand from his experience is they are easy to work on. Parts were at that time { late 90's} were readily available. Props interchanged with one of the Mercury splines. He did overpower them with 800 hp blower motors and found there was a small bearing that would repeatedly fail. With the 500's he bought the boat with he had no problems.

I could contact him to confirm and find out more if need be.

Used to be a place in California called Archer Marine. They were the go to place for Kaama stuff. Not sure if they are still around. I think the biggest issue was the rubber boots. They would dry out and crack over time, and getting them was a chore.

My buddy used industrial hose with t-bolt type hose clamps. Looked and worked great. It was a lot tougher than the original.

Got it now!

Thanks Jim. I thought that's what you were talking about, but didn't know what they were called. I have those on my exhaust.

Mercman has a bear skin rug in front of his fireplace.....the bear isn't dead.......It's afraid to move !!!
