Man accused of shooting stepson in chest to teach him a lesson
December 27th, 2009

ST. LUCIE COUNTY–A 39-year-old St. Lucie County man is facing child abuse charges after allegedly shooting a boy in the chest with a pellet gun to teach him a lesson, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

On Christmas Day, deputies charged Christopher Fred Cady, of the 2600 block of North U.S. 1, with felony cruelty toward child without great harm.

The report gives the following account:

The boy received a pellet gun as a Christmas gift and went outside to play with it. Outside, he shot his autistic cousin in the buttocks.

Cady, a registered sex offender, took the gun from the boy and shot the boy in the chest, “to show him what he felt like and that getting shot with a pellet gun hurts.”

A large welt was on the right side of the boy’s chest. The boy spent the night with his grandmother and the incident was reported to the Department of Children and Families.

As of Saturday, Cady was in St. Lucie County Jail in lieu of $500 bail for the child abuse charge and being held without bail for failing to report a change in address or name as a sex offender.

You know, a few years back this would have seemed pretty normal. I might not have shot the kid in the chest but shooting him in the arse with the thing would certainly teach him a lesson, and would not really hurt him. I clearly remember getting swatted with a stick by my Dad after I swatted another kid with a stick, to show me how it felt. I suppose now they'd investigate and put me in the wonderful foster care system

Yup. Remember every spanking I got. Though few and far between, I remember what I did and I usually didn't repeat.

Same here. I never got a spanking I didn't deserve.
I remember when my older sister squirted me with a hose. Dad ran her down, then held the hose on her. It didn't damage our psyche. I'm sure they would throw you in jail for that now. :(

Dad shot kid in chest.....that is over the top for me. If he shot kid in the can then it probably wouldn't have gotten him arrested. The gun was listed as a pellet gun which can be powerful when compared to a $29 Red Rider BB gun.

I agree that shooting the kid in the azz would've taught him a lesson. I also agree shooting him in the chest was over the top.

I got shot in the azz with a pellet gun when I was about 17. I was making out with this chcik in the woods by this river in the Poconos getting ready to go skinny dipping when my drunk friends decided it would be funny to shoot Dolla in the rear. DAM! that hurt. also ruined my chances of playing "just the tip - just for a minute" LOL

We used to hunt my best freind's little brothers in the wood by their house with a BB gun. :)

They could run out and hide, or we'd shoot them on the front porch. :)

It was all in good fun!:bump:

We used to have BB gun fights as a kid. I still have a BB in my leg to prove it. Non-lethal, but shooting someone in the chest might not have been.

Last summer I watched a couple of my buddies sit around and take turns shooting each other in the ass with 1 additional pump each time. It was quite a show of stupidity...
