Fines proposed for going without health insurance

Why do (liberal) Democrats want to "fine" people for not having insurance? It would be much better to just stop giving away "free" healthcare. Repeal the laws requiring hospitals to care for the uninsured.

This would save costs and motivate everyone to get some kind of health insurance.

Just my two-cents...

I will be the first to admit...I have no coverage..it's a gamble I am willing to take with school. on the flip side.. I actually work at a hospital...I am considered/hired as "contingent" meaning I work subject to my availabilty, yet get no benefits, sick days, vacation anything... Its a newploy being used by a lot of companies, as it stands I work MORE hours regularly(scheduled) than most of the part timers. They hire contingents instead of part timers because part timers get medical, dental, 401 matching, payed time off and tution reimbursement. you would think they would want to be nice to me, given the fact that I am in nursing school, and they are so short of nurses they are offering 5k bonuses. If they think Im going to be working there when I finish school and get my license..............

Never work though, too many lawyers for one thing......

Yeah, how would that work?

Uninsured injured person walks in the ER of a local hospital. "Please help me", he says.

The desk nurse asks, "Do you have insurance?"

"No, I don't", he replies.

"Fine!", she says. "We'll heal you for free and then fine you per the law."

Sounds insane.

Probably structured to work the same way they want to drive the cost of energy way up...but give the "low income" huge tax credits (as if they pay taxes) to offset the increase cost of energy.
.

I question in some way if the Dr. were forced to refuse service if this is a violation of the hippocratic oath? Or if the intention is for the Dr. to perform the service/procedure, the patient be fined, and then the Dr. turns in a bill to the Gov't for the service. In which, the Gov't will re-imburse a portion of the fine to the doctor.

This is all speculation on my part, but I wouldn't put it past them to try this angle in the plan.

"Interestingly, this new proposal is largely based on the mandatory health insurance law implemented in Massachusetts under former Governor Mitt Romney in 2006. That program has seen costs balloon 85 percent higher than original projections. Because of the shortfall, payments to doctors were slashed, resulting in many physicians declining to take on new patients. As usual, liberalism run amok means Massachusetts now has the highest doctor/patient ratio in the nation, and some patients have to wait over a year to get a simple physical exam.
You wanted change America….Boy are you getting it.

Think of the mandatory auto insurance idea......Everyone is required to have it so the cost will be cheaper and you get fined by not having it. That program works great right? Nope.....deadbeats driving all around you with no insurance and your rates are still high.

Nursing shortage is over, the 5K bonuses are gone too. Now there is a job shortage.....

The good news is you're close to the hospital and they can't refuse coverage to anyone......:)

You forgot to add that they just dropped 30,000 people off of it because they can no longer afford to insure them.

Remember, just like mandatory auto insurance " you can't squeeze blood out of a turnip". How do you fine someone that has no money to start with. No, I understand when you have money and are self insured or don't feel you need insurance, but poor people are supposed to be the benefactors of Chairman Obama's healthcare.

I can understand how with automotive you need insurance because you're putting other people in danger and if you can't afford it you shouldn't be driving, so you have a choice but if someone isn't willing to pay for health insurance, eat McDonalds and smoke cigarettes then f'em.... If they can't afford the bill at the doctor, turn them away...

the problem with healthcare is we don't turn away and the rest of us suffer with high healthcare costs... I was in the ER about 3-4 wks ago... 2 hrs in the ER, two cat-scan's and a couple of scripts, the bill was $4,000. that's a crime if you ask me, total f'ing rip-off... Luckilly my hospital co-pay is $50. ;)

Stage two of the ordeal, I go to an ear/nose/throat specialist who gives me an initial consultation along with a scope up my nose to check chit out.... The bill was $800, my insurance only agreed to cover only $140 and I refused to pay the rest so the doctor wrote the rest off as an insurnce write-off...

So basically they jack up the prices, some ins. pay, some don't and the saga goes on-and-on... My insurance is basically paying for those who don't have insurance.

My $.02.

you ever notice too its the people who sit their lazy ass on the couch, unemployed, pathetic and unwilling to "really" look for a job who seem to need the dr the most, or are always sick, or home taking 20 different medications.....

His plan is;

Reduce Medicare expenditures by 50%, this is the one that has the oldsters upset.

Increase income tax on the top 5% of earners by 3% to 5%

If you are at 130% of poverty level, or lower, the government will give you the money to pay your insurance.

If you do not pay for insurance, they fine you.

With these changes, they will raise 1 trillion dollars to pay for the additional 46 million people who currently have no insurance. Plus, they will improve care for those who currently do have insurance.

The big problem, it's an absolute lie to nationalize another 17% of our economy for his socialist agenda.

Currently we have 41 million Americans on Medicare. This year, just the governments cost is supposed to be $440 billion. That pays for half. The other half of the medicare expense is paid by privete insurance the medicare receipients pay and their out of pocket co-pays. Or $880 billion total this year for 41 million people.

He says he will add 46 million people to government healthcare, and add zero dollars to the deficit because his plan costs 1 trillion dollars over 10 years. The GAO itself says it adds at least 1 1/2 trillion.

What they cannot explain, because it is a flat lie, is how they are adding more people than they currently insure, give them better care than current Medicare receipients receive, improve the current care of current Medicare people, and do it for approximately 1/2 of the current expense.

If that's his idea, I want him to prove he can do it over the next three years with all current recipients of Medicare/Medicaid and I'll even vote for him then, and push for the change.

Our current Medicare costs should be reduced from 880 billion to about 500 billion per year.

Very accurate, very.....

It's a hidden tax trhe government forces on hospitals.

fiance...tard

Oh yea.. I keep forgetting about that part.

The good news for her is when we get married she will have free healthcare through my work.

Funny thing- about 5 years ago I was going to marry a single mom friend of mine so she could ride on my healthcare and she was going to give me a few hundy a month. Should have..

I'd love to see them do that, by the end of today if at all possible :03:

So how and where do we start the cuts? We only have a few hours to put this into place.
