A few boats back, I sold a 1979 Nova210xl to a guy from Canada. His family has a place near the haystack islands and as a younger man he used to love those Novas. I had repowered the boat with a custom 350 and really put some tlc in the boat. It was my first "rescue." If I hadn't saved that boat it would have ended up junked. The value had dropped to almost nothing by the time that I repowered it and started a stem to stern restoration.
We emailed back and forth, he came for a day of sea trials and inspection... and off it went. At first a local marine mechanic in his area expressed shock and horror at those terrible non-merc items, like an Edelbrock performer intake... over time the buyer realized that it was a trustworthy ride. He has kept it ever since and has kept up the maintenance. He has become a rough water lover... as those boats will do. I consider the Nova a "gateway" drug that leads to terrible things like Apaches and Sabers.
He sent me an email yesterday. I am very proud of his work.
I sent him a couple pics of the Apache. He always knew that I was into this just a little too deep.
Here's my old baby... courtesy of Georgian Bay Tom.
