Engines

Anybody know of a good book to buy to learn about high performance engines? I want to educate myself.

I also wouldnt mind a beginners book on how engines work so I can cross reference terms and stuff.

If you know of more than one tell me, I would buy more than one. :sifone:

I'd suggest checking into your local adult education classes. They are great for learning the basics of how engines work, such as what are the 4 strokes of a 4 cycle engine. (Intake, compression, ignition, exhaust)

You need to know the basic fundamentals before you can understand performance modifications.

Here's a start and good luck, it's all fun stuff! :sifone:

great site biggus. Thanks buddy.

I will be spending tomorrow afternoon studying now.

this is important stuff.

If anyone can source any other books I would appreciate it. I was having no good luck at lunchtime today.

Now back to work to try and make some money!

its friday! i think you should take the rest of the day off! :)

You dont get rich taking days off!

You dont go over 100mph in a boat without making some good coin... (unless it isnt your boat but thats not quite as much fun is it!)

need I say more:sifone:

Yeah, I was interested in the book also, but $400?

I guess it has been out of print for a while now. Has anyone got a copy cheap or has anyone scanned it to a PDF? Otherwise, it WON'T be in my stocking at Christmas!!!

I need to go my Dennis Moore book in the safe. Its sitting here right next to my computer and soon it will be worth more than the computer. I wish I had bought about 50 of them.
Its a good book with pics, specs and explanations on a lot of stuff, but $400????? I think it cost me about $30.

all ya got to know about 4 strokes is Suck, Squeeze, Bang and Blow. Everything else is just a modification on the basic principle.

Hey Adam
In addition to your printed material, I would think that first hand viewing would be great. If you could observe someone in the middle of a project and ask question would work better.
Maybe take Shawn over to Ted at Speedmaster. And without bugging Ted, have Shawn go over all the parts in various stages of assembly. (Or bring the girlfriend and then Ted will take time with you)
Anytime anyone is talking shop, listen in and ask questions.

Go to the library tell them you want to do a inter library loan for the Dennis Moore book. They will find one for you. It will take a week or so since they search throughout the USA for it. I did this last winter.
