Custom 68 Camaro stolen.

Good friend of mine owns a body shop/restoration shop. Does a lot of high end stuff for customers.

They had a White Crew Cab F-350 Dually hooked up to a White 36' Enclosed trailer sitting in front of their shop last night that was stolen. Here's the kicker, the trailer had a custom built car inside it.

The car is gonna be pretty hard to hide or sell. It will probably get chopped up for parts and running gear.

Here's a link to the car.

UPDATE....

They found the tow vehicle on Friday. It was at a gas station about 30 West of us on a major highway.

The vehicle had a pikepass in the glove box and these guys were smart enough to get rid of it prior to moving the truck. The would have had to use the turnpike to get to this station. The turnpike authority didn't show any record of the pikepass being used. Something tells me they've done this before.

Video recording shows the truck has been parked there since it was stolen. Shows them pulling in with the trailer and hooking it up to another truck to tow away. They then came back a couple of days later to strip the truck down. Yes, this happened in a convenient store parking lot and no one noticed a thing. They even took the K&N filter out of it along with the pyrometer gauge. All the audio parts are missing. They took the time to cleanly remove every single wire and not damage anything while removing items. All of this was caught on camera.

Owner of the car was at the station the day before the truck was discovered (no he didn't see the truck parked there) passing around pics and getting the word out. Station employees said they would keep an eye out no problem. They later admitted to police that they noticed the truck sitting there the whole week and the guys coming back to work on it. When asked why they didn't report it they said it wasn't any of their business. Needless to say these employees are under investigation too.

No car or trailer yet. Car is either in pieces or on it's way out of the country by now.

Raw deal. It definately sounds like someone who'd done their homework, one way or another, but then I'm no Perry Mason. Hope it was all insured.

Nice car.....hope they get it back but the scenario screams of an inside job.
Between the gas station employees and the shop employees someone had to be in on it.....

Why leave that whole rig in front of the shop just before a holiday, unless they do it all the time and it just happened to be a coincidence?

Car was stolen Monday night prior to Thanksgiving. They had just returned from a show and didn't have time to pull it in. There wasn't any prior communication to anyone that this would happen.

No tracking system on the car. I have encourage the owner of the shop to invest in these for all of his customers along with video cameras for the shop. The owner is a little old school and for some reason thinks this type of stuff costs thousands of dollars to do. I have tried to educate him otherwise. Keep in mind we are somewhat rural around here.

This car was probably one of the cheaper cars they had on hand at the time. It's not uncommon for them to have 2 million or so worth of cars in the shop. Shelby's, original Mustangs, and older Ford cars are their specialty along with a Camaro here and there. They take a handful of cars to Barret Jackson every year along with other high end auto auctions. Chances are some of you have seen their work.

That sucks for sure.....from a thieves point of view the anything from that shop is going to be worth taking though!

New developments....

Owner of the shop called me tonight wanting to know if I could identify a tailgate if I had personally sprayed the liner in the truck it came off of. The tailgate was stolen off the truck when they stripped it. I sprayed the bedliner in the truck several years ago for him. I mask my liners different than anyone in my area and have no issue identifying my work compared to others. Seems he found a tailgate on Craigslist and went to purchase it under an alias. Sure enough, he gets there and he knows it's his, just needs me to identify my work and sign an affidavit so they can get a search warrant tomorrow.

They were at his shop pulling prints off the tailgate when I spoke to him tonight.

This could get interesting.

Hope they get'm, but is it a good idea to be posting the progress? One google search of the shops name by the perp to maybe get a chance to read about himself would bring up this thread. Just say'n
Stranger things have happened.
