We're proud to present what we hope is the first in a long line of events coordinated with local powerboat clubs...

The Cambridge “Offshore Hero” Poker Run
benefitting the Autism Relief Foundation

Presented by the Chesapeake Bay Powerboat Association and sponsored by SeriousOffshore.com

This event is being held on the weekend of the OPA race in Cambridge, Maryland. Rather than a two-day racing event, the races have been all moved to Sunday and the poker run will happen that Saturday. Not only do the poker runners get a first class event of their own, they also get all the fun and excitement of the OPA race and all the events and parties associated with them.

If you've never been to Cambridge, you're missing one of the best boating destinations on the planet. We have full access to Race Central at the Hyatt resort, as well as slips in their marina. The run itself hits some of the best spots on the middle Chesapeake- Ted Ginnity will be filling in the details later.

Here's the twist- we're actively looking to draw boaters from other areas. The plan is to put together two caravans- one from the Great Lakes region and one from the NY/NJ region. The boaters will travel in a group from each of those areas. All the destination stuff is pre-arranged. This eliminates the risks encountered when making a solo trip. Once at the run, we'll pair off- local boaters with the out-of-towners. No one gets lost, no one gets left. Everyone has fun.

I am presently working with locals from those two regions to organize caravans. If other areas are interested, we can assemble groups from other regions. It would be great to see some Carolinas/Virginia people there too.

Registration details can be found here- http://www.cbpba.com:80/forums/showthread.php?threadid=5251

Great Lakes and NY/NJ boaters- contact me via PM and we can coordinate you with the local groups.

EVENT: The 2009 Cambridge Offshore Hero Run
Sponsored by Seriousoffshore.com and benefitting the Autism Relief Foundation

For 2009, the CBPBA South Poker Run has been dubbed The Cambridge "Offshore Hero" Poker Run, and will be held on Saturday September 19th.

Smitty and the gang down south have put together one great itinerary you won't want to miss. They've designed the run to accommodate everyone this weekend, whether you're a volunteer for the races, or just want to come out for the day. The run features a choice of two starting points, a helicopter taking photo's, lunch at Skippers Pier in Deal, and a chance to see some of the southern sides finest sights.

This run is also being run in conjunction with www.seriousoffshore.com. They will be working with boats from other areas and bringing them to Cambridge for the event. This will give us an opportunity to show boaters from other areas how we roll!

Also this poker run and the race are both benefitting the Autism Relief Foundation so it is all going to be for a great cause.

So whether you're planning to attend the Race Event in Cambridge or not, the Offshore Hero Poker Run will be a "can't miss event".

Tentative Details:
- Two starts - Cambridge Hyatt and Turkey Point Marina (South River)
- Helicopter photos (1 for each boat included with sign up)
- Lunch at Skipper's Pier in Deale (The best poker run lunch you will ever have)
- Run down the bay to Chesapeake beach and back up to Tilghman Island (Lowe's Wharf and Buddy Harrison's)
- Possibly a best boat contest at the Harrison's stop
- Radar Run with cash prizes!
- Cruiser and Slow boat friendly. The run is set up so you can make it to all of the stops. If you are not going to Cambridge, you can play your hand at Harrison's.
- Poker run party back at the Hyatt down by the docks.

Chris wonderful idea, how about seeing if any of the poker runners would be intrested in having SOS member ride with them as passengers, of course expenses would be shared.

Our host facility- The Hyatt Regency Cambridge.

The lunch stop is going to be at Skipper's Pier in Deale, MD. They are preparing a special buffet for us and it will be great. We did a run there last year and it was the best food I have had on a poker run. Skippers is located in Deale, MD. Which is a big time charter fishing area. Often their crabs and seafood have come straight from the boat to the restaurant, no middleman.

There will also be a stop on historic Tilghman Island at Harrison's Chesapeake House. They have a great outdoor bar that is the scene of a a crazy party every Labor Day, I'm pretty sure they will have it cleaned up by the time we get there :26:

This will be one of the best Poker Runs on the Chesapeake Bay done by one of the best organizers out there. Don't miss this one. This club has handled as many as 100 boats on a poker run in the past so they know how to do it.

Great event and I will be there for the weekend but have to duck out for Saturday Night for a wedding, this is really a great idea for the Poker Run on saturday and the race on Sunday... and for everyone that has never been to the Hyatt, it is Beautiful resort with a 300 slip Marina, going to be a great weekend for everyone. If your there on the docks and see my boat please introduce yourself, I'm sure I will have a few extra cold ones on there for ya!!!!

Hhhhmmmm......

Might have to run this one past The Admiral. She's been on about visiting Cambridge this year at some point.

Well that pretty much sucks, would have loved to run it,.....same w/e as OC Bike week. Good luck with the event, hope you get a great turnout, maybe next year, a little more than 4 weeks notice...please.

Stop by for the race on the way back from OC! You didn't want to see the bikini contest at Red Eyes anyway :sifone: Sorry for the delay, this was a bear to get all together, but it's gonna be good.

A large part of the run will be on the Choptank river, so expect river conditions. If it is rough for some reason there will be approximately a 10 mile run across the bay that is doable for most boats. It is also designed so that if you are running slower than most you can skip a portion of the run and make all the actal stops, but not the drive throughs.
