Bruce Rossmeyer......RIP

Guy owned a bunch of Harley dealers and built Destination Daytona.

Bruce Rossmeyer, whose empire of Harley-Davidson dealerships made him the company's largest dealer, was killed in Wyoming in a motorcycle crash, sources confirmed.

Rossmeyer was traveling with a group of friends on his way to the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota.

Wyoming Highway Patrol officials confirmed there was a fatal motorcycle crash involving a Florida resident on Wyoming Highway 28 near Pinedale, but refused to release further details.

Rossmeyer's family is expected to release a statement soon.

From his first dealership in Daytona Beach in 1994, Rossmeyer amasssed an empire of at least 12 Harley locations, from South Florida to Tennessee to Colorado.

The crowning jewel was Destination Daytona, a 150-acre resort for bikers off Interstate 95 with hotels, condominiums, restaurants and stores anchored by his big-box-size dealership, which ranks as the largest dealership.

Rossmeyer made his face synonymous with motorcycles. If you haven't seen his highway billboards, you may spot the portly magnate on TV ads with Geico's gecko.

I worked for this guy when he ran Towne and country Chevrolet in Toms River NJ.It was my first real job out of High school I remember him well he was a classic old school sales manager he taught me a lot.R.I.P

I have seen Bruce more than once at dealerships. He was busy cussing out people in charge of parking at Destination Daytona. I don't think he was ever up for the Miss Congeniallity Award. I'm sure he'll be sainted now. He's been reduced to hawking for a lawyer around here. Harley isn't recession proof either. Apparently only putting window tinting is recession proof.

Yeah he did that a lot:) yelled at me a few times but he was still a decent guy in my opinion.Haven't seen this guy in like 30 years forgot about him until I saw his face on a billboard in Ft Lauderdale.Remember when his daughter turned 17 and got her license got a new Z-28 for a demo

Yes, Destination Daytona was just being built. The parking lots were all dirt.

I've heard stories about how he came into a bunch of money, and it wasn't from hard work.

My buddy does window tint, definitely not recession proof! New homes, new cars are the bulk of the business. He just finished a $500,000 job in Lauderdale for hurricane film on an office building and 30 people bid on the job from around the state. The rate was 1/2 of the going rate two years earlier. He made good money but only after passing the lower rate concept to the supplier/installers.

Harley's problem is lack of new riders. My dad's generation rode but on my street (18 houses, 500K+/- value) we do not have one motorcycle. Boats, RV"s yes but no bikes. So there avg. age rider is getting older and not buying as many bikes as before. Two of my uncle's ride (one bike is an 02, the other is an 07) and both have said that these are their last bikes. They are in their 50's and have ridden through Europe and all over the US but feel they have done it already and don't want to spend 25K on another bike. I don't have one friend that owns a Harley, crotch rockets/Ducatis yes but no Harleys.

I know it's not. I just threw that in for Offshordrillin's edification.

I have a lifelong friend that lives in Ormond, who started riding about 10 years ago. Now it defines his whole life. I've been everywhere I want to ride, I have no desire to go to Sturgis or anything like that. I don't even go to bikeweek 20 miles from here in Daytona.

I have an old friend of mine from Pinellas that just flew to California, where he and a buddy keep an old motorhome. They are driving to Vegas, then riding dual sport bikes along the rockies. He was in Baja Mexico earlier this year, and plans on flying back to Cali to ride Baja again. He owned one of the baddest Harley type bikes I've ever seen. His wife told me when she first met him, that bike was the only thing in his living room:)

As Bob Dylan said, "The times they are a-changing". :)

we just stopped in Destination Daytona early last week for the first time..pretty amazing place..then heard of his death on the drive home the other day.

R.I.P.

This guy really goes out with publicity!

Cops crash during Rossmeyer's Funeral

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Six motorcycle officers from various agencies were involved in a crash while escorting Bruce Rossmeyer's family to his funeral.

VIDEO: 6 Officers Involved In Crash

One officer crashed into the back of another, causing the chain-reaction crash, the Ormond Beach Police Department said. The crash happened around 9:20 a.m. on Halifax Avenue in Ormond Beach, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Rossmeyer, a motorcycle legend, died in a motorcycle crash last week. He owned several Harley-Davidson dealerships, including the dealership in Daytona Beach.

Two Daytona Beach police officers were taken to Halifax Hospital and have since been released. The others were not injured.

Funeral services were held for Rossmeyer at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

RIP

I sat next to this guy on a long plane flight. It had to have been around 1985.
He got on carrying a helmet and Harley jacket. I asked him if he was out west riding.
He said "Hell No" I was looking for Harley dealers to buy. Told me that he was looking
for little ma & pa dealers. Said allot will sell their Harley franchise for cash.
He said he needed their allocation of bikes.

From a very reliable source bruce was behind four or five bikes they were passing a camper being towed by a pickup. When Bruce passed the camper made a left turn.
