Milwaukee man injured in boating accident on Wolf River
A Milwaukee area man was transported to Theda Clark Medical Center Thursday afternoon after the boat he was operating flipped over on the Wolf River south of Fremont.
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. William Anthes said Kurt S. Mesterhazy, 42, Anthony R. Vojtas, 32, and Richard E. Shircel, 24, all of the Milwaukee area, were near Orihula when the 42-foot pleasure boat hydroplaned, flipped over and ran ashore on an island. The trio were ejected from the boat in the incident.
Only Mesterhazy was injured, Anthes said.
The incident remains under investigation, but Anthes said it appears speed and unfamiliarity with the river contributed to the incident.
