According to the Coast Guard, they felt there were not adequate assets on hand to handle the conditions based on their overview of the handling of the 450 double boat accident issue. Hopefully the officials from APBA and Race World Offshore will have a meeting with the Coast Guard to make sure that never happens again. I'm sure the Coasr Guard would be willing to do a review. We were discussing the weather forecast for Sunday almost a week earlier, not a surprise.
The Super Cat teams were lobbing to allow them to race on Saturday because the forecast for Sunday was worse than what actually occurred.
The conditions were certainly not to bad to have a race. As you can see in the 450 Class photo in the article, the waves were 1 to 2's maximum on most of the course, 2 to 3's on the west end of the course. New teams make errors, just a fact. Especially in the first race of the season.
Hopefuly Cocoa Beach will be better.
