2005 Durmax carrier bearing

I should have taken pics but for those who need to replace the bearing it is not so bad. Just unbolt both ujoints and carrier bearing and you can either have the old bearing pressed off and on or cut the old one off like I did. Just don't go too deep. I just used a piece of pipe to tap the new bearing into place.

Auto Zone does not have the bearing for my application. I had to go get one at the Chevy dealer. Ouch!

I read on the Diesel forum Napa has some but still $100.00 or so for a good one.

I was gonna do my carrier bearing in the driveway on my 2006, but got lucky at a local private driveline shop that does heavy trucks and buses.
I had them do three U Joints and the carrier bearing for barely more than the parts.

I just wanted to post something. I got mine off and was like of ****! Then I started reading and everyone was freaking out. It was not so bad. Just thought if someone came across this thread it may help.

I think it will help someone. These trucks have such a steep learning curve that every tip and trick is useful. Besides, they all have the same failures around the same mileage. If you haven't done a carrier bearing... you're gonna. :)
