I did that 1 weekend a month crap for 6 1/2 years from 1968 t0 1975. That weekend always conflicted with some other event, usually family. It beat the heck out of Viet Nam though.

things sure have changed for the guard units ,25 years ago they would come to red flag and we would stare in horror at them, crappy uniforms, long hair, &no military bearing. now they are combat hardened units, and look the part . when I first went into the air guard I had two guys on my weapons crew who outranked me, but I was boss because of my active duty record. plus everyone was related to each other except me!
