A few more...I am standing in the starboard bolster in the last pic of Predator leaving the harbor in Virgina Beach on our way out to make a few passes up and down the beach. Ed Toth in the center, Herb Stotler on the throttles. Lucky me!!

Well, when I met Ed Toth at the Virginia Beach race in 92 he did say I could buy the whole rig, Predator, trailer and his F-350 truck for $250,000. Still haven't won the lottery so I will have to stick with the models of the Miami Vice Scarab I have built. Converted one to full race, pretty cool...

Fund Razor, no, that isn't my boat. That is a picture of Predator, an Apache 41. I rode it her in 92 at Virginia Beach when she was owned by Ed Toth and powered by Herb Stotler engines. That picture was taken by someone else, I found it on SOS. If I am using it incorrectly or without permission...

So Ted, not trying to stir up trouble in the pot, this thread does have Apache in it after all, but you wrote Bertram designed the hulls? Just learning new things every day.

How similar are Apache and Cigarette hulls? I have never been between the two hulls to go back and forth on land, but they look very close. Both were designed by Mr. Aronow, right? And Formula too? Hull width, strakes, etc.etc.

What is the best alignment for the props at speed? Having half the prop coming out of the water?

Is it best to have the bullet of the drive in line with the bottom of the hull at neutral trim? If so, are the props "surface piercing?

Makes sense. Predator had crash boxes, interesting to have to stop, change gears, and restart. Is the trans mounted directly behind the engine or on the transom? Did I read correctly that a lot of the European race boats have 3 or 4 speed transmissions?

Good stuff, thanks. So, why isn't it called narrow and wide stagger? In a full race boat a short stagger would be best because the drives are closer and lower, right? Are there any books or articles about setup for drives and engines?
