    1980 Excalibur Exicutioner 31 ?

Yep. Nothing wrong with a TRS. As long as they are set up properly, behind some 450-500hp motors in this boat, they'd work well and last a long time. Very smooth shifting around the dock. I wanna say that a TRS is a little shorter than a ssm ii, so bolting a Trs in place will bring up the...

    1980 Excalibur Exicutioner 31 ?

It's definitely a cool piece. Id bolt some TRS on and lose the Ssm ii setup. It would be neat to freshen the motors and keep the old turbo setup!!

    1980 Excalibur Exicutioner 31 ?

Need to watch the fuel tanks on the early excaliburs. Known for cracking. Kevlar has a gold color. I remember something about Kevlar deteriorating over time, like 'drying out' so to speak. That one pictured looks cool, but it'd have to be pretty close to free. Lots of potential, but for what...

I do agree with the above post. Salt water, just ruins everything. He's absolutley right about the headbolt threads in the block. On those engines, the head bolts go into the water jackets. Salt, heck, even fresh water over time eats them up. Personally, Im leary about buying used engines...

    Merc 420 Cyclone engines

I agree. Not even worth messing with it. Flat tappet cams are cheap enough to replace. My previous post, I may have been gettin a little far ahead of where your at. So, dont get nervous. I'd remove all the rockers and pushrods tonight, and remove the heads. Keep all your valvetrain parts...

    Merc 420 Cyclone engines

Here is what I suggest. Keep on tearing it all down. All the way to bare blocks. Saltwater, can wreak havoc on the cylinder heads, and blocks. Once you get them down to the bare blocks, you'll need to take them to a machine shop. Have the blocks tanked, magnufluxed, and sonic tested. When you...

I agree with Jim. The engine that is in the boat, is probably useable, but only after a teardown and mild freshening. I wouldnt just attempt to fire it and run it. It shouldnt cost that much to open it up, inspect Everything, and go from there. I'd definitly wanna do valvesprings/seals before...

    Mercruiser special restore

I talked to a guy last week, who owned a few offshore boats. A 38 Cougar, 38 top gun, 42 Fountain, and 41 apache. he said his favorite ride, was the 38 cougar. I have never been on one, but he said the ride was incredible. I have set foot on milvicegm's 38 Cougar, and loved the deep cockpit...

I will get in touch with a guy i know today. I think he has a 454/420 mercruiser all original, turn key with around 200-250 hours. I think it can be bought for around 2500-3k complete. Its a freshwater engine, never modified. Not sure if he still has it, but I think that could be a good option!
