Magnum Force / Thriller 74 Magnum Maltese

How 'bout these Mags Pictured below are several Mags. If you look at the Miss America, it really looks like the "Starfire" boat George was talking about. The green 28' Maltese, "Tweedy Pie Too Too II" owned by the Krells, won the NORA national championship in 1973 or 4 I think. The red Sport...

Magnum Force / Thriller 74 Magnum Maltese

Hey Bud, if I am not mistaken, Magnum made the Starfire model to accommodate the larger Mercury big blocks which would not fit under the standard 27' Sport rear deck. If we are talking about the King's original 27' named "Starfire", that boat was not a Starfire model but a standard Sport. Again...

The next owner wrecked it bad and I don't think it ever made it back to the water. We did replace her with an Open class boat though:

George, Starfire was my dad's chief competition in the Modified class in 1976. I think Gus King's son, Marty, raced with Keith. I also think Starfire was the original Tommy Adams' Miss America. Bottom photo is the M-50 Conspiracy.

Both boats also had Volvo drives. My dad actually raced the first 280 TRS boat, a 28' Maltese named Conspiracy, to a world speed record and national championship in 1975. Having said that, these photos could have been from the 1974 season.

I actually took those photos as an 11 year old attending a Red Crise NORA race in 1973. The Magnum Force boat was actually a 27' Sport. The other is a Maltese, and was blue and yellow.

So who wants to be a racer???

How fast do these boats really go? And how much do they cost complete?

    Rules 2011

Pat, Don't get me wrong. I think it is great that after all these years you are finally getting involved in a productive way. All I am saying is that if you all want to grow the sport in a meaningful way, you must have classes which are based on production engine packages i.e. Ilmor, Mercury...

    Rules 2011

I am a big fan of spec racing. The reason is simple: It is the best way to grow the sport. There are more potential racers out there who want to be able to simply buy a ready made package than those who want to engage in the engine building game.

    The Positive SVL thread

It was purely a top speed issue for LLC.

will SVL play with one group

    Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :_boobies:

    The Positive SVL thread

IMO you should start with a "single step" rule. All active SVL boat builders, including Fountain, has a single step boat from which to develop an SVL.

    The Positive SVL thread

Yes and no. In the LLC rulebook we established max speed parameters to let the racers know that if the boats started going faster than that then we would adjust the rules accordingly. We used to sit in unmarked boats in the spectator fleets with radar guns and it worked pretty well.
