Taxpayer union

Since taxPAYERS are now being abused and vilified as badly as workers were in the 20's and since the present federal administration likes unions so much, lets start a taxPAYERS union, no tax users or tax returners need apply. Then we can start collective bargaining how much we pay and where it goes. Most of our elected representatives (tax users) no longer represent our best interests. God Bless those in Wisconsin who are trying, I hope our newly elected reps in Ohio have as much courage.

When the unions are gone, wages will go down, and hours will go up, for everyone. They are still a necessary evil. Greed is , and always will be inevitable.

Only when there is a surplus of workers, when there is a shortage, wages will go up and hrs down. Just like what is happening in China now and what hapened in Japan years ago. Law of supply and demand.

I'm going regret this as I'm sooo out numbered on these boards... I try to NEVER get into political discussions.

When I finished serving my country in the US Navy (tax user) where I could have already been retired from by now and collecting a pension,(users) I went to work for a NAPA store as an auto machinist (tax payer).

I took and scored high on the firefighter’s civil service test. I was offered the job while away on my 2 weeks of active duty military service while I was still in the Navy Reserve.(Tax User)

During the interview, I was told straight up "It's a very good job 95% of the time but the other 5% ... well, they can't print enough money for that. You'll never get rich being a firefighter but, you will get free health care for life, the ability to retire after 25yrs of service and collect a pension."

So I left a higher paying job at NAPA, (Yes I was earning more at a dang NAPA store than the Fire Department was paying) because I wanted to serve and protect my community while paying my dues (in MANY ways) toward the promised benefits 25 years down the road.(Tax PAYER and User)

I'm now just under 4 months away from my 25 years. I have been exposed to all kinds of toxic chemicals, gasses and asbestos. Once my skin peeled off my face and neck from exposure to smoke from a factory fire (tax payer) while saving their facility, majority of their finished product and the jobs of their employees (tax payers).

I’ve had to directly deal with well over 2 dozen (quit counting) dead burnt up bodies including many children and babies as well as personal friends (it's a small town). I've cut mangled dead teenagers out of cars and even picked up baby fingers out of the dirt on the side of the road(many of which were successfully reattached :) )

It took 23 1/2 years before I actually got to save a woman/mother (Tax payer) from an upstairs bedroom of a fully involved house fire. Then a couple months later using our new rescue boat pulled a man (Tax payer) from an overturned car in a flooded icy river. Only 2 good saves out of dozens of mind blowing, traumatizing experiences during my career. I’ve nearly been killed several times going above and beyond. (Foolishly in many cases)

The past 15 years of negotiating we have continually made concessions to our City knowing the economic situation in our manufacturing based community is hurting. (The jobs all went overseas so the companies could avoid being or employing Tax Payers. We pay more for health care now. We pay more for our pension and have not asked for cost of living increases MANY times. We fight fire with 4 men which is well below the minimum manning required by the Nat. Fire Protection Association. (Unsafe)

My pension will be just over 2k per month before taxes. (Tax payer) To keep my current level of insurance will cost 750 per month so I’ll end up collecting about 1k per month.

I’m not crying the blues, only stating that the reasons I’ve taken these risks for the promises made are now being taken away. I’ve always known people only care about us when they need us. Then before we get back to the firehouse we are back to being a burden to the community.

I’ve paid taxes and into my own pension for those 25 years. I feel I’ve earned it. I’ve been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress and can’t sleep without seeing dead people. I could even get disability but not even applying for that. Just trying to survive 4 more months without another dead baby… I’ll probably die of cancer like many other firefighters. I knew this going in. The average firefighter draws his pension for 7 years before he croaks. I’m 48. I’ll still be working and paying taxes as who can live on 1K per month. Otherwise I’ll be homeless…

Issue 5 allows our employers to say, “Times are tough, we can only pay you minimum wage from now on and forget about vacation or seniority.” Merit bases layoffs mean get ride of the experienced older guys as we earn more. You’ll get the protection you deserve. Guys who stand outside and spray water through the windows. Not a guy like me who fought my way into a crack heads house to attempt to save the 2 year old left alone in the house while mom was next door smoking crack. All the while listening to them stand outside and scream at me to “SAVE MY BABY!!!” I carried her out dead… while the crack heads all survived.

Issue 3 wants to take our pension, which we’ve paid into and invest it “for us” in the stock market. I bet that will work well. “Sorry we lost your money so we won’t be sending you anymore earned and promised checks.” They also want us to work 5-7 more years for the same pension.

But, hey I feel very appreciated for my lifetime of service to our country and our community. Not! Who are really the USERS?!

Waa waa, you made your choice. Granted your bravery but you're still a tax user and at best a tax returner. I dont have any pension and pay for my health care. I dont ask anyone else to. Ask all the private workers who have lost all their benefits how they are doing. Sorry, times are tough, old promises are worth squat.

This is the real source of the rage on the left: Mandatory union representation, empowered by mandatory collective bargaining and mandatory dues deductions enforced by the state, creates an enormous flow of cash for Democratic political candidates and their pet causes. From 1989 to the present, five of the ten biggest donors to American political campaigns have been labor unions, including public-sector unions such as the National Education Association and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. The overwhelming majority of those donations go to Democrats. The union bosses and their Democratic patrons know that giving workers more of a choice about union representation will diminish that power and reduce that cash flow. That is what this is about, for all of the cheap talk about “civil rights” — as though federal employees in Washington were being treated like second-class citizens because their unions do not enjoy the same princely powers until now wielded by Wisconsin’s

Copied but it follows the money.

Well Tom, you could have paid the 90k into a 401k like I did my pension over the years... your choice.

I knew this was a bad idea...
Go to walmart and support the people who killed our economy..

Waa waa, .

You did not just say that about a firefighter did you??? someone who rushes in to save your ass while everyone else is rushing out?? Someone who rushes in to save your family when your ass is rushing out...WTF is your damage??? A lot of people here know me, they know I very VERY rarely have an unkind word about anyone...you my friend, you ungratefull sob can go sit in a corner and phuck yourself if you truely think that the people that are willing to give their lives to save yours are the problem.

That would be Clinton, who gave China favored nation status and opened the floodgates for his buddy Sam Walton. And Clinton again, who through Don Espy, gave his buddy Tyson the flood gates of cheap labor from Mexico. And Barney Frank, who bought millions of votes for the Democrats by giving houses to people who had no right to own them. Yup, I buy junk from China, but only when theres no other choice, which is most of time now.

Its too bad that people and the media dont understand that this has nothing to do with public service workers. It has everything to do with a system that forces those workers to join a union, to pay union dues with taxpayer money to a union who supports a single political party with the expressed intent to keep that party in power to perpetuate the money flow from the workers to the union bosses and their cronies, the democratic party. The workers would be behind these reforms that stop this robbery and extortion if they werent so ingrained in the entitlement mentality.

Sorry I wasnt clearer, you misread this and my argument, which has nothing do with Firefighters, Police or any public servants. I know Underdog and have nothing but the highest repect for him and his fellow firefighters. Its the Unions we are fighting, no the workers.

This will pass in Nov. No doubt. You get a gun stuck in your mouth... call Wacka-nuts, your family is trapped in a burning house, call the snot nosed kid down the street with the red light on the roof of his S10 who is only involved to impress the lil girls and stroke his ego.

We get the gvrnment we deserve and the protection we are willing to pay for.

Lets take away the care for the Vets while we're at it. They CHOSE to go fight for the oil and so what if they lost their legs. Bush oil will reimburse the expence of recovering all those WMDs and saving the world.

We promised those guys care and a penson too. Fkem... we can't afford it after spending trillions fighting and killing for that 9% of our oil supply.

I'm done here... go turn on yer Ditto Cam.

For what it's worth, Wisconsin's new law exempts police and firefighters.
Not K-sicks in Ohio. Or theother 11 states. We are the sole reason the economy is in the toilet.

But, it will pass in Nov. so this discussion is for nothing. You only care about us when you need us...

I'm bailing out asap and going to live high on the hog w/my 1k takehome till I die of cancer. Maybe I'll live 90 months and collect what I paid in...

Who wants my boat? I need sails...

Wooo there, don't lump in your hate. I have many friends that are firefighters. Some full-time for Appleton and many more volunteers for the local small towns around here. I have the greatest respect for firefighters.

Sorry for the generalization. Just what I've experienced.

I should have skipped this thread like I usually do.

I should and may delete these posts...

Jus kinda touches a nerve.

I'll go back to being a burden to society now.

Application  If you meant appreciation, your welcome!

And don't worry about the emotions showing. This has been a hot topic here in WI and has literally turned family members against one another.
