Quick Update from the Miami Boat Show Poker Run

Well just got back from the Miami Boat Show Poker Run and had a great time. Yes Friday was cool and overcast but Sat and Sun. were beautiful! Attendance for the run was good but the tiki bar on Fri. & Sat. nites were dead compared to most years. We had a good crew down from Jersey, over 40 people and we partied like rock stars. Apparently there were quite a few break downs (14 - 15) myself included.... grenaded a drive about 7 miles shy of Gilberts. We got a really good number on the GPS before it happened though! Cool air + flat water = happy blower motors and sad Xr's! ;)

Hey Stainless,

From what I've been told, Pure Platinum was, far and away, the fastest boat there. I think the owner shut it off around 175, but the boat still had more.

Were any of the MTI's evem close? "Far and Away" the fastest

Speed had "calibration issues" with his new potters and put the boat back on the trailer. Matt spoke with Bob Christie on the phone. Here is an excerpt from Matt's external article on Boats.com, courtesy of Speedonthewater.com:

" 'What are you going to do?' Christie told [sic] me over the phone as he and throttleman Chuck Burke idled back to Grove Harbor. "Obviously, I'm very disappointed, but there's nothing I can do about it now.' "

He liked riding around on the new 390 Sport when he was down there.
No breakdowns either....

According to the people I spoke with, at 170-175 mph Pyburn's Skater had pulled far, far away from the fleet, hence my "far and away" comment. If other boats had more top end, from all the reports I've received, they weren't showing it.

I have nothing but respect for the MTI and Skater brands, but my reporting had nothing to do with brand loyalty. Just what happened.

Personal experience: Last year at this run, I was in Speed Racer flying along at 130 mph. Pyburn's Skater went by us like we were tied to a tree. No other boat did that on that day.

Also reported: At 170 to 175 mph, Pyburn got bored running alone outside and backed it down. As for Albert Haynesworth's beautiful boat, he was under-propped and hit the wall at 155 mph. I got that directly from him, http://www.boats.com/boat-content/2010/02/miami-poker-run-update-haynesworth-loves-terminator/.

Being "first" to the lunch stop is different than being "fastest." But as I've said many times, poker runs are not (or should not be) races. I just reported on the boat that was, by all the accounts I could gather, the fastest boat in the run.

They only need to send 1....

Actually they need to send 2 one to start the run and one to finnish the run..This is said with no disrespect to Bill. PP is a fast mofo and a beautiful boat and Bill is an awsome guy. I get tired of hearing a bunch of bs from people that was not in the boat. I dont recall PP ever passing Alberts boat on the way back to Grove Harbor on Sunday. I know PP is faster,Im just saying..:cheers2:

The question was posted since you had so many MTI's and one or two Skaters. Merc 1200's is a lot of power. 155mph is a long way from 186. Matt's statements appears to be true of far and away. It would appear this new 388 Skater hull is extremely fast. You might want to erase the Skater graphics off that MTI treminator hull or put more power in that thing. Too Funny.

I got a buck that says it's not faster in 8's and 10's.

I'm waiting for someone to re-rig an unlimited hydro and start bringing it on some of these runs.
