is this a 3 or 4?

I don't know the exact specifics. I know a 4 looks like a 5 with the square rear on the upper. I think you are right that a speedy two is a trs upper.

Looks Like a 3. The 2's had different caps where the steering mounts. And the Transom assembly is larger then the TRS or #2

SSM 2

That's a TRS gimbal. It has 1/2" studs to mount the outdrve and the small propshaft. Plus the small trim rams.

They're rare, and valuable. But if you break one you'll learn why they're rare and valuable. Power handling was less than the TRS. All of them I ever saw were set so low in X that it wasn't funny. They were a few inches longer than a TRS.

upon further inspection (my bad photo) if you take the block off the back the steering attached too, the drive gets small quick....i guess it just looks bigger since it is on a small transomn...thanks for the help

#3 not a trs t/a its a small shaft 3
trs t/a is much smaller and shorter... this is one of the 1st 3s # 2 had a very large mid section and vents, almost like an outboard...

number three speedmaster

It is an old number three, it was the drive before the 3a. I also have one just like it,i.25 gear ratio and short shaft. John m.

You guys.

It IS an early 3. TRS does not have the fill in the rear cover. And the side where the decals are on the upper is smooth. TRS it sticks out.. Also the spacing on the studs is different the TRS.

I am willing to bet anyone who is willing to say different.

Pretty sure it is a Scarab. I could check.

Parts are limited. Not sure on details. Bearings and seals you will be able to get. Shafts and gears maybe not. I wouldn't think you can break it on a small boat. Just keep lube in it.

I would contact Craig Colabella in St Cloud for more details.
