May go cheap

I was about to go thru this in the summer nice Sunsation without power and drives but by the time you bought all that you had more in the boat than it was worth. Then when the economy tanks or god forbid lose your job you can't sell you up side down. Turnkey is for me. DISCLAIMER: This has nothing to do with this boats price or anyone's boat!

They are dreams for a lot of guys that dont really have the time to work on them or think they know more than they actually do.

If I was shopping I would buy it, have it shipped directly to a local marina I trust and have them drop it new drives and new 496 HO's. No, I wouldnt win any races but not everyone cares about that. In the end you have a "realible" stepped hull 37-42 ft. boat with a decent trailer for around 55k.

Totally agree with this. Everyone keeps touching on our fabulous economy without realizing that some of the budget buys are available. That boat could have 502's which were one of the most popular motors manufactured and installed the year this boat was manufactured dropped into it and a set of bravos for a total of 20K. Boating under $50k is possible if you shop around for good used parts in this scenario. It does not have to be a show boat but one that is functional and economical. There are a hell of a lot of successful projects that have been completed in one season too btw, just not all of them are documented step by step because they are again....budget projects that work for that particular owner. Who knows, everything turns around and they upgrade out of the used power for about what they put into them and a few more upgrades and they have a monster performer rather than just a 70 mph great go-fast. My .02!!! I am sure Scott at Shogren Performance will make this a great deal for someone and he probably does have reasonable used power that he is willing to add on the deal to the right buyer. Good luck!!

Sure but you would still have way too much into the 65 mph boat than anyone would ever pay you for it. Phil (Lipship) had a year old 38 Top Gun with 496's that was cancer to get rid of due to the small power (and pink paint scheme). Every tire kicker in the world would give you a hard time about 496's and lack of blue motors. In the car business it is called "a deduct", in the boat business it is called "an anchor".

I understand your angle but a 42 is too big and heavy for 496's and 30K for a pair of new motors/drives installed is very optimistic.

Scott,

Are you the new resident expert on the car and boat biz? I would like to think that the persons considering buying this project would use used parts to get it back going. Come on dude the doom and gloom know it all attitude is a little much all the time don't cha think? As you know already, there is an A$$ for every seat!!!!!!

No but a pair of installed new 496's/bravos for 30K....... seems too good to be true. :sifone:
Used power is the way to go on this one for sure. I already stated this is an ideal project for someone that had cash to buy it, power for it and a place to store/work on it already.

I never said resident expert.....think voice of reality, opposing opinion. You are the Ford guy, never owned one myself and I would bow to your knowledge on fixing the blue ovals.

Just busting stones!!! I rich man once told me a positive attitude is the key to sucess. I have to agree that some people bury themselves in projects. This boats seems like a no brainer, a couple good used motors and drives. Get to the lake for less than 50K, I don't think even with "small power" you can lose on this one if you do it right!

Andy I can see the power of positive but some people look at the smallest number on the paper and the dream begins. I tend to look at the biggest number/worst case number before I jump into something....As many others have said, too many good turn key deals out there to mess with projects!

I am pretty sure that boat had 575's in it , But then again it was a 32' boat:biggrinjester:

There was a very similar paint scheme one here in Jupiter with 575's but no way was it this clean. Guy lived across from Jupiter Island and boat was lift kept, cover off for weeks at a time 1/4 mile from the ocean. He attempted to be a Sunsation dealer for awhile but only delivered one boat other than his demo.

:lurk5:Not a bad deal if you cut corners if you go retail for everything it may not work!If you have power it's a great deal!

Looks like the price has jumped up quite a bit on it. But from what I see, i dont know if I would put this in the "project" boat category. Am i missing something? Sure, it needs motors and exhaust, and some drives to get on the water. There are plenty of good "takeout" deals around for engines/drives.

To me, a project boat is a boat that has been gutted, and missing pieces, in need of wiring, rigging, fuel tanks, etc. Sometimes buying a boat without power may have its adavantage if the deals right. Me personally, I'd rather buy something that "I" can put fresh power in from the get go, rather than buy something thats "complete" and paying "complete" for the boat, only to have to go thru the motors that are tired right after the purchase. I suppose it can be looked at lots of ways. How many guys buy a complete running boat for 75k, thats worth 75k in the book, then 6 months later end up dropping another 20-30k freshening thier power.

It's ok. I had the gears cryo'd. :D:biggrinjester:

Wow, everyone on here seems to have Champagne tastes and a 6-pack of Schlitz checkbook!!!! Everyone wants to knock the value of every boat but not step up and buy a boat!!!! For one, the number one selling drive on Fountains, Donzis, Formulas, Cigarettes for the majority of the last 10-15 years has been the bravo and that is boats up to 42 feet with twins and trips up to over 50 feet. I understand that there are applications where it does not make sense but we are talking a market of survival where there is good "value" out there and people can boat on a budget. At the end of the day, being on the water is what counts and last time I checked not everyone can go out and buy a $250k+ boat let alone the $800k price tags that is being discussed on another site!!! Hope someone can make this work for an application that makes sense for them. Good luck selling Scott, it is going to make someone a nice boat for potentially around $50-$60k.
