India.....

What has occured there in the last few days sickens me. It was an attack against the world. It also drives home the fact that we are all far from safe, as a nation or as a planet. Perhaps in this quasi protracted world we live in we can come together as a group and wipe these ingrates off the face of of our globe. Sooner or later it will become time to be, "politically incorrect". Fact of life. Thoughts and prayers to the victims of this ongoing insanity. My opinion.

It's crazy. Just got back from NY, and this was the talk of the town for sure. There were also whispers of some sort of warning or threat against NY mass transit during this holiday weekend...kind of makes you wonder...No country is immune anymore. Indeed, it's due time for some politically incorrectness.

The attacks in Bombay are rooted in Indian history. India was under muslim rule for hundreds of years until the British took them out of power in 1857. The Islamists in India and Pakistan are still PO'ed and think they should be returned to power. This conflict is pretty much localized to the Indian subcontinent. The scary part is that both sides in this ongoing conflict have nukes.

From Wikipedia...

Main article: Mughal Empire

The Mughal Empire was a product of various Central Asian invasions into the Indian subcontinent. It was founded by the Timurid prince Babur in 1526 with the destruction of the Delhi sultanate, with its capital in Agra. Babur's death some years later, and the indecisive rule of his son, Humayun, brought a degree of instability to Mughal rule. The resistance of the Afghani Sher Shah, through which a string of defeats had been dealt to Humayun, significantly weakened the Mughals. Just a year before his death, however, Humayun managed to recover much of the lost territories, leaving a substantial legacy for his son, the 13 year old Akbar (later known as Akbar the Great), in 1556. Under Akbar, consolidation of the Mughal Empire occurred through both expansion and administrative reforms. After Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan came to power. Subsequently, Aurangazeb ruled vast areas include Afghanisthan, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. He ruled India by changing the existing status quo and lead the country well provided justice to the people. [17][8]

The empire ruled most of present-day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan for several centuries, before it declined in the early 18th century, which led to India being divided into smaller kingdoms and princely states. The Mughal dynasty was eventually dissolved by the British Empire after the Indian rebellion of 1857.[17][8] It left a lasting legacy on Indian culture and architecture. Famous buildings built by the Mughals, include: the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort, the Badshahi Mosque, the Lahore Fort, the Shalimar Gardens and the Agra Fort. During the empire's reign, Muslim communities flourished all over India, particularly in Gujarat, Bengal and Hyderabad. Various Sufi orders from Afghanistan and Iran were very active throughout the region. Consequently, more than a quarter of the population converted to Islam.[17]

most fail to realize that the world has always been a rather violent place. the only thing that has changed over millions or years is our efficiency at violence, as we are always trying to perfect easier ways of killing each other. whether it's sticks and stones or thermo-nuclear weapons, man has used them all to assert dominance over his fellow man.

As long as there are different religions there will be war. Been that way forever.

Not even that will change it.
There will always be inter fighting within different thoughts or beliefs within the religion.
Even though they are all in belief of the same God.

Happens in every facet of life.
Even boating websites.:leaving:

The point is..... These entities are far from superior, they bask and hide in the notion of religion and realize the "political correctness" continues to stop the real powers from exerting true punishment. These rodents are simply free to roam about with no recourse and thay know it. When do we as a globe decide to put down our sticks and stones that they use and let them try in a real world enviroment with our equipment. Until that time comes it is us in the real world that lives in fear. Remember Japan......made a point, didn"t it..... F em it is time to stop this and that time will come. One way or another. My opinion

We'll never put down the sticks and stones. We have too many caring, empathetic people who refuse to allow us to win (the same bleeding hearts that think rehab and therapy fixes hardened criminals, child molesters and our our terrorist prisoners). We'll still be throwing stones when they attack with our own technology and weaponry. Then it will be too late.

Nick, One can only hope you are wrong. However that being said. We have stepped out of box before. I am not giving on us yet........It may not be 'US" shall we say......My opinion.

uhmmmm I'm trying to figure out how to say this tactfully.. most of the posts in this thread are exactly what perpetuates violence, war, terrorism etc.. the belief that our beliefs are better than the next guys. if everyone respected and allowed the next man to freely have his own beliefs without prejudice, we would all get along and the world would be a peacefull place. Given past history, extreme muslim terrorism is rather benign compared to some of the things done in the name of christianity. I am NOT condoning terrorism, I am saying that if we respected their beliefs and they respected ours without prejudice or malice, their would be no terrorism in the name of allah, buddah, jesus or fred flintstone.

That's very nice. It's pleasent, really, and I wish it's a feeling that was shared by all of mankind. But, alas it is not, and it's blindly idealistic to believe that this notion and it's spread will change anything. No disrespect, but it's that kind of thinking and it's characteristic complacency that allows superpowers to collapse. Remember, this has been going on since the beginning of time...it won't stop with our niceties. We can sit idle and respect them until they destroy every last one of us and every last civilized place on this earth. That is what will happen.

agree, the fight for Christianity was far worse then what the muslims are doing. If you read in some history books, they didnt like people who were smart and studied science or math.

then there was no real force to stop the Christians from doing as they pleased. Now, there is a force to stop the muslims from torturing and terrorizing people. It isnt the muslims as a whole, it is just a select few extremists.

as i have said all along we need to drop a huge bomb on that part of the world after pulling the troops out.

Tactfully as you say..... Interesting comment phragle. Let them kill innocent people whomever, whenever......beliefs in what.....killing innocent people on vacation......Shows ignorance phragle, not tact, nor intellect. Nor my respect. My opinion.

high-tide,
I have to thank you for a great initial post.
Probably one the first on this site that really gets people thinking about things that are more important...
It's a very complicated subject to discuss, and there are many facets to it that, while typically, some of us are just goof-balls, here to have a good time, we also have some pretty serious thoughts on serious matters.
While I would like to say "just drop a bomb", that isn't the answer either. Although it would take care of things for the near future.
The long term is, this will never go away. Not in any realm, be it religion, politics, business, or tiddly-winks.
Everyone has there own way that they think it is played better than the next.
And they will all fight for it.
Just the way it is, and that is human nature. It's animalistic. The Lion wants to be the Lead of the Pride to show his dominance and invoke his ideas for the well being of the "herd".
Interesting topic being brought up.

you either did not read what I wrote or comprehend it. I did not condone terrorism, endorse killing or advocate extremeism. I did not excuse any acts of violence. I merely stated that if everyone respected everyone elses rights to worship whoever or whatever they choose, there would not be people running around killing each other in the name of god or allah or floyd the barber. Alas that is never going to happen.

True.

Alas that is never going to happen.
Even more true...they want us dead, period:

"Muhammad is God's apostle. Those who follow him shall be ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another." (Surah 48:29)

"The Day of Resurrection will not arrive until the Moslems make war against the Jews and kill them, and until a Jew hiding behind a rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: 'Oh Moslem, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'" (Sahih Bukhari 004.52.176)

"The only true faith in God's sight is Islam." (Surah 3:19)

"Say, 'Obey Allah and the apostle.' If they give no heed, then truly, Allah does not love the unbelievers." (Surah 3:29)

"Men take authority over women... As for those who are disobedient, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them." (Surah 4:34)

"Seek out your enemies relentlessly." (Surah 4:104)

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51)

"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:29)

The island nation of the Conch Republic doesn't seem to have these issues. The peace process down there is another mojito.

I know its not a laughing matter, but from the first time I saw the pik and the video of this guy, all I could think of is that its Tony Montana.. coked up and in a rage.
