GM, which spent 40 days in bankruptcy protection during the summer and has received about $50 billion in U.S. government aid, also plans to sell its Saab brand and scrap Pontiac and Saturn as it tries to streamline its operations.

The Hummer deal is a victory for GM, which saw a similar agreement to sell the Saturn brand blow up at the last minute. Auto dealership magnate Roger Penske's bid fell through just before the deal was to close last week when a contract to make vehicles for Saturn was rejected by the Renault board.

The company wants to focus on four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.

My aunt paid over sticker to get one of the first H2's and I drove it home from the dealership. Truck was a turd, tranny couldn't pick a gear and it was slow. It couldn't climb a 4 foot pile of paver sand in front of my neighbor's house. The H1 was more competitive in the offroad world but no one other than Arnold S. could drive it everyday......

Phuck...$150MIL...that's only 3000 units @ $50k/ea. If they manage to figure out how to get the mini-DMAX in there that platform would overtake the Landrover in the lesser developed parts of the world. Would probably take Europe by storm also. And all at more than $50k/ea.

They might not get the mini-DMAX but I guarantee they'll stuff a diesel in there and it'll still sell like rice cakes...

GM won't sell them a Duramax/Allison combo cheap enough for them to make any money. Without GMAC financing them at 0% nobody will buy them anyway. I bought an 09 Yukon and that truck destroys an H2/H3 on any level......plus they are as polictically uncorrect as a swastika!

I bought an h3 alpha for the wife this year. Took it off roading one time and was very impressed, push button diff lock and traction control will get you further than many so called factory 4x4's. The 300hp doesn't hurt either.

The only reason China boiught the line, and I'm a little surprised they didn't try to add Saturn as soon as the Penske deal fell through, is for the access to US markets for their own vehicle lines.

chassis engineering always allows for multiple vehicle designs. It's irrelevant what other vehicles run on a given platform. Cadilacs run on Opel, Corvette and Tahoe/Suburban chassis.

The only other off the showroom vehicles I can think of that can go where an h3 can in that price range are the rubicon jeeps and the small range rover whatever that's called these days.

I know at least 4 guys over here driving happily with H1´s.. slugs on the road yes but only a snowstorm once or twice a year is all it takes to have these guys have a grin on their face the rest of the year...
You can´t drive over 55 with those, same goes for the CJ5/7´s but they still Rock IMO.
