No mater what I do, how much I spend, how much time and maintenece we do, how come every time I try to go something like this has to happen?

Just spent weeks trying to get the boat ready for Sarasota.
Yesterday put all new bearings, brakes and tires on the trailer. This morning I went "ONE SMALL BLOCK"
went to stop in front of my house to load my suitcase and BOOM!!!!

How in the hell?.....
Thank goodness that happened in front of your house and not halfway between here and there.
Why can't ya ever catch a break?

That 3 inch by 3 inch 1/4 wall aluminum square tube of 6061 broke. What does that support 14,000lbs? Go figure what a surprise.

Holy chit man - you have the worst luck sometimes. but I agree - better in front of the house then runnin down the highway @ 70mph - that would of been really ugly. I'm sure a couple of phone calls and you can be rolling by tomorrow.....

It always amazed me that amidst all that massive structure, the only thing holding it all together is such a small, inadequate fitting. You found the weakest link. :(

Poker run's tomorrow. :(

Wow! Glad it's not too serious!

I would upgrade that to a solid piece of galvanized steel and I would absolutely swap out from Surge brakes to Electric/Hydraulic. That Surge coupler is putting a lot of stress on that piece of the tongue as you can see. Every time you brake and the trailer surges forward/downward, that stress caused the tongue to break. Electric/Hydraulic will mitigate that stress/risk in the future.

Also, move the tongue jack to the beam of the trailer. That's just more static stress on that small tongue tube when the setup is not being towed.

Gino, Count your blessings on that one bud. May be the best luck you've ever had (other than meeting your wife)....

Hard to believe. Has anyone else ever noticed cracks in that area? Is it because it's an aluminum trailer?

What's the deal root cause????

The surge brakes????

Why didn't MYCO do it that way to start?
.

WOW. No one was hurt in the filming of this accident! Now that is good luck if I have ever heard of It!

I would think an MTI would be way over 14K lbs??? Seems like it should be a pintle hitch or a 5th wheel trailer in the least...

I'm pretty sure that is galvanized tube, not aluminum, but it is obviously not up to the task. That said a replacement should be at the closest trailer supply and you could get on the road again, fix it right when you get back. Damn lucky that didn't happen at speed, all your good deeds are being repaid Gino.
