"Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory ... of how we are taking responsibility."
-Nancy Pelosi, 05-27-2009

A little bit of communism must have rubbed off on her while visiting China.

I'd like to see it in full context. It seems odd a Dem advocating responsibility. I have always believed the Framer's came up short- after the Bill of Rights, they should have drafted the Bill of Responsibilities. ;)

I suppose it depends on your definition of responsibility.

Some would say I'm irresponsible for not walking to work and for owning recreational devices that consume natural resources and add foreign substances to the environment. I would contend that the tens of millions of adults that failed to educate themselves, fail to endeavor to better themselves, fail to properly raise their children- or be involved at all- and fail to use a portion of their time in the interests of bettering society are more irresponsible. But that's just me.

There are only a very few times that your average Dem advocates responsibility, and it typically involves taxing/limiting/regulating the population, as would be the case with 'climate change' policy advocacy.

If China was forced to care for their environment and their workforce in any fashion nearing that of the U.S., that cheap stuff at Wal Mart would disappear overnight.

That's the difference between a Democrat, a Liberal and a I-don't-know-what-you-call-them. Maybe the true believer. The average person that calls themselves Democrat just likes the free ride and the redistribution of wealth. But they'll spend that $$ on that cheap Asian $hit. The Liberal embraces the idealism of love everyone/care for everyone, which there's nothing wrong with other than the approach- I believe the best way to help a person is to help them to help themselves. The last one- the guy that won't buy products made with slave labor or in sweatshops or made by economic enemies of the U.S.- that's a rare breed. And unless I miss my guess, there are more of them on the opposite side of the aisle.

Moral favoritism at its finest. Always punish those who do well...Let's allow China to pollute all they want (they're still developing).

Ultimately, philanthropy and saving the world is expensive. The necessary moral aptitude, and the daily practice thereof, simply doesn't fit the average person's means. But alas, there's nary a shortage of these fine people (all of the above from your post) in Washington to make the necessary decisions to put in place the systems granting us the privilege of saving ourselves and the world, sparing no expense in the process, while leaning on those who would have paid for it in the first place but now must additionally support the system as well. A boondoggle in its finest. That reminds me, I can't wait until we all have to trade in our trucks for our new O-cars that get a government mandated 42mpg. That'll tow the little sailboat just fine.
