24' cougar cat never rigged

That may be one of the American Cougars that Brownie built, I suspect he would know about it, it would be a very cool project to rig that with new technology now.

That would make a great project! I wish I could. We need to make sure we follow this one. I'd like to watch the progress.

For some stupid reason I can't view the ad, but if it looks like the one in the pic from keywest it's a 27', cougar didn't make any 24' glass cats, only wood.

Well that is a good question for Brownie then. I'm almost certain the molds Cougar had here where for a 27' I guess they could have blocked it and made a 25'. I never saw one. I only know of four that they actually made. 1) the original white one (Steve Curtis's First Ride) 2) the one in the keywest pic (Cat-U-Later) 3) Couragous Cat 4) Smokey Cougar (Steve's 2nd ride w/3 2.4's ) someone Ping Brownie and get him on it...

I,ve owned both ,the 25 and the 27 ,they are completely different cats ,as the 25 has the upper deck flares molded ,and the 27 has 2 tunnels/deflectors bolted on the deck that were ment to deflect air/water in front of the engines.
the 27 has no sprayrails/lifting strakes on the running surface(last 10 ft) and no notch built into the sponsons,as the 25 has a 15 inch notch, and lifting strakes in its running surface.

I had 4 x 2,4EFI mercury outboards on that 27 ,and 2 x 2,5 EFI (260)on the 25 .
both were built in Kevlar/glass and extremely strong and stiff.
The 25 ran 112 mph ,and the 27 we kept running out of propellor no matter what we put on ...but we were still doing 8000 rpm with 15x34 and 1,87:1 ratio,we didn,t have any bigger pitched props ,and we could not find lower units with 1,75:1 ,later we took one engine off ,and tried with 3 x 2,4 EFI,and still did 7800 rpm with the 15x34,s

I found the 27 Cougar the ucliest cat ever ,and the 25 was looking a lot better IMO

So is there enough room to take a 25' cahnge it to and IO and put a #6 on it?

If so I may have a friend interested ;-)

A 6 drive????

That's an awful lot of power and weight for that size boat...Think 24 Skater with a little more size. Of course they put big motors in California cats of that size, but those designs eat horsepower with no speed result...This one is different in that regard methinks.

I think it needs 2 T2X's......

And maybe a third to drive.....

The 25 doesnt have a center pod ,or a deflector ,I think the # 6 can be installed if you can add a deflector in front of the drive .
A 25 Talon has about the same dimensions as the 25 Cougar ,but that Talon has a center pod ,and will made it easier for I/O.
I once saw a 25 Daytona with # 6 drive and steel BBC with blower and a B&M 2 speed trans ,that boat wasn,t really deep in the water when sitting at the dock.
Maybe if the #6 is used on the 25 Cougar with a steel BBC ,the engine can be placed a feet or 1,5 ft more up front for balance ?

I was thinking about putting two XR shorties ,with 2 x LS7 engines with lets say around 600 HP each ,this will keep the weight in control ,no deflector needed, and me think that 25 footer will do around 130 mph ??

I still think the 25 is a bargain ,you won,t be dissapointed with its performance ,hope someone buys it and put 2 x 300 XS on the transom

Yes just like this 25' Talon,........the only one ever built by Rob Wilkens
of Talon for Rod Tschiggfrie. Not Talon Hustler.
