Whats the word on that, I thought it was bad luck to change the name but I no like the name on my boat. 'Time out' must go but then it`s been trouble free so if I change it and all goes to hell then I guess I~ll know it is bad luck.
A SALT WEAPON is a better fit.
Cruiser John is going with Knot Sea.. mmmmm ok John

Perform the ceremonies

Recommend the ceremony. In fact, I'm amazed at myself for NOT doing such a thing, as I am mildly supersticious. Mine went from "Hammer Time" to "Red Hot Sommer" the second season I had it and promptly blew a drive.
Wouldn't "A Salt Weapon" work more betterer if you boated on say...the OCEAN?

03-02-2012 12:17 PMlol I am not going with KNOT SEA, Thought about Safe SEAman.. but that got vetoed... We are changing the name and are having the ceremony. As silly as it seems, I am very superstitious and will perform all ridiculous displays to the gods. C dock renaming ceremony, drop that Baja in on the 7th and join us... Needs to be done before the maiden voyage.

Helped change the name on a few boats in our club. Followed the directions, all has been fine for them so far. Some people might think it is dumb, but who wants to test bad luck!

There are a lot of old maritime traditions. I feel it's best to stick with them, even if they may seem silly.
My boat was originally named "Hot Stuff". It looked like the original owner took a sheet of vinyl, and cut the letters out while it was on the transom. Vinyl removed, the outline was etched in the gelcoat. I had to wet-sand it out.
I haven't settled on a new name.
I was thinking "Brane Damnage" - but the wife doesn't like it.
A few here will understand the underlying meaning..."Keep the bottle on the bar Ira, I won't be long".

Plus, most of that tradition can be a lot of fun !
