cool project.....will the canopy fall within the Lavin guide lines...that if you wanted to race or build a canopy for a race boat it would pass inspection...

I think Rick's plan is to build a 90 mph canopy similar to a bat boat style. Not a Mystic/Skater 200mph canopy.

We have everything cut off, lowered the deck by 6" Now its time for re-construction of the fwd deck. It looks like we are going to do a custom on-off also, set up for 4, Maybe 5,

my angles are at 30 degrees for the best possible deflection. I took the design and help from the aussy..

The overall size, length and height fit the boat perfect. The front above the windscreen will be much lower and slopped that what I have now, I just ran out of time last night.

Thanks!
But after looking at it I may change the angle from 30 to 25 degrees. The fun never stops.. lol and to be honest I have never done anything like this before, Hell I never even worked with fiberglass till I started this project so Its taking longer than expected.

Hey guy just curious are you doing this project in Epoxy ? I gotta tell you seeing that you have never done this type of work before the beauty of everything is... if you f**k it up it can always be fixed and overall when all is said and done i think it will be a nice looker . I was just wondering what you are trying to achive with your canopy as far as what type of material you are going to use fabric / core / ext /ext and how strong ( structural ) do you plan on making the canopy ?

I'll be placing 1/2 inch balsa-core (sp?) over the mold I'm making. Than I'll glass and shape it into it's final design. Once thats done, I'll pop the balsa-core part off and glass the inside with a couple sheet of 1708 cloth also giving me 4 layers (and on matt layer on the outside) with a Balsa-core center.
Plus I'll have pillars built in with a roll cage.
With the F16 canopy the boat was a pin in the ass for anything other than racing, now I'll have a 4 person race/poker run boat.

today I changed the windshield angle from 30 degrees to 25 degrees and than "shrunk wrapped it"
This will keep the inside clean from resin and help keep the balsa-core from sticking to the part.
