The Ilmor guys told me that Mercury had to drop the power on newer packages to meet emissions. Has anyone seen lower speeds with newer 700's than with the first few years?

They have a 662SCI for export, still sell a 700SCI for the US

From what I have seen from my friends who have them and have serious time on them, drive reliability is very dependent on the x-dimension. Those that are mounted with a high x-dimension seem to be eating transmissions and having internal failures. I saw one last weekend from a 39 Outerlimits that snapped the 1" input shaft! As for the motors themselves they seem to be getting good reliability out of them. The motors do have a tendency to have over safe computers kicking them into "safe" mode and/or sounding warnings.

We have'nt had any problems what so ever from our MTI's with 700's or our cigs. The performance and reliabilty has been great. Best all around pkg out there. IMO......

I've heard mostly positive feedback on the engines and some negatives on the trannies. There's only one person I know of who blew an engine.

A friend took me for a ride on his 46' OL this weekend and it seemed to do ok with 700's.

How would that make a difference, is it because they are coming out of the water more?

Sunsation has made that their standard power on their 43 and it has worked great in that application.
